Deeping in the Cloudforest
Just two hours from Quito, Mindo feels like stepping into another worldโlush, vibrant, and alive with the sounds of nature. Nestled in the cloud forest, this small town is a haven for biodiversity and the perfect destination for a day of birdwatching and adventure.
We started early, just as the forest was waking up. Accompanied by an expert local guide, we wandered through misty trails, binoculars in hand, and were quickly rewarded with sightings of some of Mindoโs most iconic birdsโcolorful toucans, elusive quetzals, and the dazzling Andean cock-of-the-rock. The symphony of birdcalls was both soothing and exhilarating, a reminder of the richness that thrives in this unique ecosystem.
After a morning immersed in birdwatching, we shifted gears for a hike through the cloud forest in search of waterfalls. The trail took us over hanging bridges and along moss-covered paths surrounded by towering trees and wild orchids. The air was fresh and cool, and the deeper we walked, the more we felt disconnected from the outside world.
Our reward was a series of breathtaking waterfallsโeach one more magical than the last. Some of us braved the chilly pools for a refreshing dip, while others sat quietly, simply soaking in the serenity of the moment.
As the day came to a close, we left Mindo feeling recharged, inspired, and grateful for the beauty of nature. Itโs not just a place to visitโitโs a place to experience, to listen, to breathe.
