Maquipucuna is a magical refuge, perfect for all types of explorers. This reserve covers over 14,000 acres of protected cloud forest, located in the heart of the Chocó Andino Biosphere Reserve, one of the most biodiverse places on the planet. With altitudes ranging from 900 m to 2,785 m, it hosts a wide variety of ecosystems and an impressive array of wildlife. Walk its trails and enjoy exciting hikes as you delve into the fascinating local flora and fauna. Experience unique birdwatching and spot majestic Andean bears in their natural habitat. Relax by swimming in the crystal-clear waters beneath the waterfall and savor exquisite local dishes. Maquipucuna Ecolodge is handcrafted with local bamboo, blending perfectly with its natural surroundings to create an atmosphere in harmony with nature. There are different accommodation options, from cozy cabins to luxurious suites, all with private bathrooms, fresh spring water, and hot showers. Relax and enjoy panoramic views while feeling the soft breeze. For the more adventurous, there are camping areas with nearby bathrooms.

Day 1: Departure from Quito between 7:00 and 7:30 AM, with a two-hour drive passing through the Middle of the World until reaching the Maquipucuna Reserve. After a welcome briefing at the Maquipucuna Lodge, we will begin an introductory hike. In the morning, enjoy a guided walk to learn about medicinal plants and their traditional uses. In the afternoon, take a journey along the Bear Trail in search of spectacled bears and birds like the Chocó toucan and the Andean cock-of-the-rock. During the season, these bears can be spotted near the lodge. In the evening, the bar opens at 6:00 PM, and there’s an option to go on a night walk to explore wildlife after dusk.

Day 2: Start the day with a birdwatching hike at dawn (6:30 - 8:30 AM), the perfect time to enjoy the songs and activities of various species. Afterward, take a refreshing dip in the waterfall and check-out before lunch at the Maquipucuna Lodge. In the afternoon, we began the return trip to Quito. A unique experience to connect with nature and the biodiversity of the cloud forest. 🌿🐻
